Columbia Falls is a small city located in northwestern Montana. It is positioned in Flathead County and is the 3rd largest city therein. As of 2016, there were about 5,241 people living in Columbia Falls.
The plot of land Columbia Falls sits upon was purchased from a Tribal woman for the purpose of having the Great Northern Railway construct a station there. Before the railway arrived, a bridge across the Flathead River in addition to a flour mill, bank, and the Gaylord Hotel were all constructed. The railway station was never constructed but the community continued to grow. The first newspaper began operating in 1891and in the middle of the 20th century four large lumber mills were constructed in the city.
